Pomposa Abbey

Pomposa Abbey, Romanesque complex dating back to 1063, with its bell tower, on the S.S. 309 Romea at km 42 (about 12 km from Lido degli Estensi). May be reached by bicycle or car.The interior has a nave and two aisles with columns and capitals in various styles, Roman and Byzantine, originally from other buildings, and a floor decorated with rich mosaics of different styles and periods. There is a grandiose series of frescoes extending from the apse all along the nave as far as the entrance wall.
